The Birkenhead2020 Project – May Round-up

One of the interesting things about the Birkenhead2020 Project is that not only are we documenting the streets of Birkenhead and creating an archive for future historians, but you can see the changes as the seasons pass by. In January, there trees were bare and there was a chill in the air. Now, at the end of May, the urban landscape has changed and the sun is (mostly!) shining, the trees are in full-leaf and the flowers are blooming.

These goslings in Birkenhead Park are a little reminder that it isn’t all concrete and brick and that we do have beautiful areas that are an oasis of calm right on our doorsteps.

We still, of course, have to contend with the ramifications of the Covid-19 pandemic and the impact it has on everyone’s everyday life. But out small team of photographers have been out-and-about tirelessly photographing the highways and byways of the town. We hope you enjoy looking through our favourite photos from the last month.

Here’s some stats for those who are interested. We now have photographs of over 500 streets in Birkenhead and a total of over 6,000 photographs in the archive.
